Open role
Senior Quality Assurance Engineer
A strong tester who writes real automation code.
DawerOne · Hybrid, Gurugram office 3–4 days a month · Full-time · 6+ years
About the job
You will join our Quality Engineering practice, embedded in an Agile delivery team testing a large enterprise estate for a live North American client. A single business process runs across a core platform, integration middleware, workflow orchestration, and several APIs on AWS. When something breaks, it usually surfaces in one system and starts in another, and finding where takes someone who understands how the pieces fit together.
This is senior manual QA and senior automation, done by the same person. Most work starts by hand. You read the requirements, question the gaps, work out what needs testing, and test the process end to end across systems, checking the data at every step. Then you automate what is worth keeping, extending and maintaining our Playwright framework in TypeScript.
It is not an automation-only role, and it is not a role for recorded scripts or AI-generated tests you cannot explain. We need both halves at a senior level. If you have only tested a single app or a small system, this is the wrong seat.
This role is a step toward leading QA and QE. You need the ability to grow from automation into leading quality on an engagement and building scalable frameworks. We expect that growth and will give you room for it.
You are the quality champion on your team. Quality does not stop at your role: you help developers and product owners build it in from refinement onward, rather than catching problems at the end.
This is a full-time, hybrid role. You work from home most of the month and from our Gurugram office 3–4 days a month. Pay is benchmarked to seniority and we share a number in the first conversation. Travel and relocation are at your own expense.
Hiring is three conversations: a technical discussion, a working session on real problems, and a conversation with the founder.
Responsibilities
Quality assurance and manual testing
- Take part in refinement and sprint planning, review requirements and acceptance criteria, and raise gaps before work starts.
- Work out what needs testing, and own the test strategy, test plans, and test cases for features and releases, prioritizing by risk.
- Test business processes end to end across the core platform, middleware, orchestration, and APIs, and validate the data at every step.
- Run functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing every sprint and before every release, including negative, boundary, and role and permission scenarios.
- Test across browsers and devices on BrowserStack.
- Log defects with clear reproduction steps, evidence, and expected versus actual behavior, after separating real application defects from environment, auth, and test data problems.
- Run bug triage with developers and product owners, hold a position on severity when it is challenged, verify fixes, and own defects through to closure.
Automation
- Extend and maintain the Playwright framework in TypeScript across UI, API, and end-to-end workflows, following its patterns, and fix flaky tests at root cause.
- Automate API and integration tests, including authentication, permissions, and services running on AWS, and run them in CI/CD.
- Write and review test code to the same standard as application code: structure, isolation, readability, and speed.
Team and reporting
- Champion quality across the team, helping developers and product owners build it in rather than test it in at the end.
- Report plainly on coverage, risk, and release readiness, including when a release is not safe to ship.
Minimum qualifications
Experience
- 6+ years of experience in quality assurance, as both a hands-on tester and an automation engineer.
- 4+ years of hands-on test automation experience, with no exceptions.
Quality assurance and manual testing
- Deep hands-on testing skill: functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and exploratory testing, including negative, boundary, and role and permission scenarios.
- Experience testing large enterprise applications with integrations, and a working understanding of how complex distributed systems interact: services, middleware, queues, events, and data flowing between them. Testing a single app or a small, self-contained system is not enough.
- Experience validating data across systems and APIs, including authentication, using API calls, logs, and queries.
- Experience analyzing requirements and user stories, asking the questions that expose gaps, and working out what needs testing.
- Experience with test strategy, test planning, and test design, prioritizing by risk, and writing test cases another tester can run.
- Experience logging clear, reproducible defects and running bug triage with developers and product owners, through severity calls, retest, and closure, in Jira with a test management tool such as Xray, TestRail, or Zephyr.
- Experience testing applications and services running on AWS, and cross-browser and device testing on BrowserStack.
Automation engineering
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests in Playwright with TypeScript: fixtures, page objects, configuration, parallel runs, and tracing.
- Strong programming fundamentals in TypeScript or JavaScript: types, async and await, promises, modules, error handling, and clean code another engineer can review.
- Experience maintaining and extending a test framework at scale: reusable API clients and test data utilities, stable locators, no hard waits, and keeping it fast and reliable as the product changes.
- Experience debugging failures from traces, logs, and network calls, and reading the application code to find where a problem starts.
- Experience with Git, pull requests, and code review, and running suites in CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or MCP servers daily, while understanding and owning every line they produce.
Ways of working
- Experience working embedded in Agile teams, taking part in refinement, sprint planning, and reviews.
- Excellent written and spoken English, for working directly with a North American client.
- The ability and drive to grow into leading QA and QE, including building scalable frameworks.
- Ability to work 1:30pm to 10:30pm IST, and to be in the Gurugram office 3–4 days a month.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience testing Salesforce, including its APIs, data model, and permissions.
- Experience testing integrations built on MuleSoft or workflows built on Flowable.
- Experience setting up quality gates in GitHub Actions or similar pipelines.
- Experience testing LLM-backed features, AI agents, or other nondeterministic workflows.
- Experience working in consulting or client delivery teams.
